Fresh Apples & Steel-Cut Oats Servings: About 4
1 cup Steel-cut oats
4 cups water
1 large red apple
1 Tbsp. brown sugar
3 tsp. white sugar
¼ to ½ tsp. cinnamon
- In a medium saucepan, combine oats and water. Bring to a boil and simmer for about 20-30 minutes.
- While oats are cooking; peel and dice apple. In a small saucepan combine apples, sugars and cinnamon. Simmer on low, stirring often.
- When oats are done, spoon into serving bowl, spoon apple mixture over oats and stir.
Inner Chef Note: Two great things about steel-cut oats: they do not have that “gummy” texture that regular oatmeal has and you can make a batch on Monday morning and refrigerate the rest for a quick breakfast the rest of the week.
